Prevention Priorities

• Mobilise all stakeholders to commit to making prevention a priority, and improve coordination among those stakeholders
• Effectively scale up male circumcision as planned
• Strengthen human resource capacity to respond to prevention needs
• Ensure funding for prevention is increased, even in the face of decreases in donor funding
• Strengthen data on behavioural drivers of epidemic to target responses particularly delayed sexual debut for both primary and secondary school level children
• Focus on behavior change interventions that move away from abstinence only to focus on multiple concurrent partnerships and intergenerational sex
• Increase distributions of female condoms and information on their use. Also improve social marketing of male condoms with a comprehensive marketing strategy
• Put in place strategies for targeting high risk populations
• Develop a “prevention movement” building technical capacity to sustain prevention efforts, and to create greater demand and uptake of prevention services
